Thomas (Tom) SchulerPresident and Chief Executive Officer
With more than 25 years of global leadership experience, Tom possesses a dynamic and entrepreneurial passion that has fueled his notable success in the building and construction sector. Tom joined Solidia Technologies in 2011 to lead the company towards global commercialization.
Tom led two global businesses with revenue in excess of $1 billion, including as President of DuPont Building Innovations. He has served on DuPont’s Growth and Sustainability Boards and the World Business Council’s Board for Sustainable Development. He has spoken in the Americas, Europe and Asia to international trade and sustainable growth groups, sharing his conviction of the need to change the conversation around sustainability when commercializing new technologies. To effectively convert adopters, Tom advises leading with any potential cost-savings or competitive edge that the new technology conveys and how closely it parallels current practices. After clearly demonstrating a consistency with future business prosperity, innovators should follow up with the improved sustainability profile as an added value. Based on his many years of experience, Tom believes that disruptive technology should, above all, be designed for simplicity and ease of adoption.
Tom has a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Virginia, has conducted extensive graduate study in finance and marketing, and has a mastery of conversational German and French. He serves on UVa’s Jefferson Scholarship Foundation’s Alumni Advisory Council and national selection committee.
Bo Boylan, Ph.D.Chief Commercial Officer
Responsible for the commercialization of Solidia’s technologies, including agreements with essential business partners, Bo’s diverse experience includes start-up ventures, recapitalized turn-arounds, and leadership for maturing businesses in need of innovation and strategic marketing and sales initiatives.
Bo previously served in a variety of leadership and sales and marketing roles, including as managing partner of Ravenwood Consulting Group, Inc., a North American-based consultancy focused on revenue quality, commercialization of new product and service offerings, and strategic planning; in Citigroup Venture Capital’s portfolio of building products manufacturers; and with Saint Gobain’s North American building products group.
He earned his undergraduate degree in marketing management from Virginia Tech, M.B.A. from Wake Forest University, and Ph.D. from North Carolina State University.
Alexis BreslinVice President, Human Resources
Alexis is responsible for creating the organizational governance that enables the development of Solidia’s productive and engaged team of employees. She has over fifteen years of comprehensive human resources and leadership experience, including training and development, organizational development, and labor relations.
Alexis is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources through the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and HR Certification Institute (HRCI). She attended Rutgers University, completing a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a graduate certificate in Employment Law.
Nicholas (Nick) DeCristofaro, Ph.D.Chief Technology Officer
Nick spearheads both Solidia’s research and development program and the company’s intellectual property strategy. Nick has extensive experience managing materials science innovation in an industrial context.
Throughout his career, Nick has focused on the development and commercialization of advanced materials. He came to Solidia from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he directed the Office of Commercial Ventures and Intellectual Property. Prior to joining UMass, Nick held a variety of research and business management roles over a 28-year period, cumulatively, at AlliedSignal, Honeywell International, and Hitachi Metals in the U.S. and abroad.
He has 66 patents and 30 publications to his credit. Nick earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in metallurgy and a doctorate in materials science and engineering, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Vahit Atakan, Ph.D.Chief Scientist
Vahit is the co-inventor of Solidia’s core technology along with Rik Riman, Ph.D., of Rutgers University. He also oversees planning and implementing research that serves as the foundation for developing new applications. He brings with him deep knowledge of material science and innovation.
Vahit received his bachelor’s degree in metallurgical and materials engineering from Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi, Ankara, Turkey, and his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Rutgers University.
Paul BarbaraFinancial Controller
Paul oversees all aspects of financial reporting, including payroll, accounts payable and general accounting. His wide breadth of experience includes systems implementation, financial closing, and financial reporting experience.
Paul has a strong history establishing internal financial control and process improvement procedures in corporations focused on technology, manufacturing, and global sales. He previously served as financial controller for Soundview Paper Company (formerly Marcal Manufacturing), interim controller at WinCup Inc., director of Sarbanes-Oxley at GenTek Inc., director of accounting at Cendant Inc., general accounting manager at BOC Gases, Inc., director of Financial Projects and U.S. accounting manager/director at International Flavors & Fragrances, Inc.
A certified public accountant in the State of New Jersey, Paul holds an M.B.A. in finance and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Fordham University.
